Troy Men’s Golf Climbs Leaderboard on Final Day of Daytona Beach Intercollegiate

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Troy climbed a spot into a tie for second place following Tuesday's third and final round of the Daytona Beach Intercollegiate at the LPGA International Arthur Hills Course.
Troy shot 8-over on the day, the third-best round in the field of 14 teams, to move into a tie with Longwood at 21-over for the 54-hole event, while host-Stetson won the team title, shooting 7-over for the week.
The Trojans were strong on the fringe holes, tying for tops in the field, averaging 12-over the par-3s while finishing in a tie for second, playing the par-5s to a combined 1-under.
Jake Springer led the Trojans for the fourth time this season and for the third straight tournament, dating back to the fall finale at The Celrico. The Tallahassee, Fla., native shot 1-over on the day and finished the two-day, three-round event in a tie for fifth place at 4-over par.
Springer carded a team-best four birdies on the day, with three coming on par-4s and one on the 536-yard, par-5 eighth. He finished third in the field with 10 total birdies over his three rounds.
Brantley Scott and Pablo Gracia tied for 11th after shooting rounds of 76 and 73, respectively, on Tuesday. Scott had one birdie in his round after shooting a 69 in the second round, while Gracia added a birdie on the second and 17th for his best round of the tournament.
Nick Fowlkes was three shots back of that pair in a tie for 21st place after a birdie on the par-3 12th led to a round of 78, and Lee Poppell closed out the week with his best round, shooting 2-over thanks to three birdies, including one on the 420-yard, par-4 18th, as he tied for 49th place overall.
Troy continues its busy spring with the Seminole Intercollegiate next Monday and Tuesday at the Seminole Legacy Golf Course in Tallahassee, Fla.
