Women’s Tennis Defeats Georgia State on Saturday Morning

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Troy women's tennis team extended its win streak to three matches after taking down Georgia State 5-2 on Saturday.
Troy (10-6, 4-2 SBC) won the doubles point and took a 1-0 lead for the third consecutive dual. Prior to the beginning of its win streak last week, the Trojans had lost the doubles point in seven straight matches.
Valeriia Avdeeva and Maria Guirguis won 6-1 in the first doubles spot to give Troy the early edge. Georgia State responded with a 6-2 win on court two to force the third doubles match to play out. Hagar Ramadan-Amin and Leena Metwally stepped up and secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win.
Troy is 7-0 this season when it wins the doubles point.
The Panthers quickly tied the dual at 1-1 with a straight sets win on court one. Metwally responded for Troy with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court five. Guirguis pushed the lead to 3-1 with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win.
Ramadan-Amin clinched the match victory with an impressive 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 victory in the number two spot.
The remaining two matches were played out with Gabrielle Leslie securing a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) win on court six. Her impressive season continues, as she moves to 13-1 in singles play. Metwally moved to 10-3 with her win. Georgia State picked up the final point of the match after Avdeeva retired in the third set.
