TROY, Ala. – The Troy track and field program gears up for its third week of competition in the outdoor season as they head to Birmingham, Ala., for the UAB Spring Invite on Friday and Saturday.
The Trojans are coming off a weekend of competition at the Ole Miss Classic that saw them claim five podium placements. Through two completed meets, Troy has accumulated 24 top-3 finishes.
Meet Information
What: UAB Spring Invite
When: Friday, March 29 | Saturday, March 30
Where: Birmingham, Ala. | UAB Track and Field Complex
In-State Success
Troy looks to replicate the success it had at the same meet last season, as it claimed 18 podium finishes and four first-place winners. Javon Osbourne led the way with an impressive showing in the discus throw. His mark of 55.59m shattered the UAB Track and Field Complex record.
Also picking up wins in the meet were Jasai Taylor (400m hurdles), Amelia Nettles (hammer throw) and Cole Stewart (javelin).
Stewart is coming off a strong weekend in Oxford, as he finished second in the javelin throw – an event he will compete in this coming weekend.
Osbourne will look to match his facility record in the discus throw this weekend. He will also compete in the shot put event. He ranks top-50 nationally and third in the Sun Belt in both of those events. Also competing in the shot put will be Altwayne Bedward, who is 58th nationally in the event.
Nettles will also look to follow her 2023 hammer throw win with a good showing this weekend. Fellow Trojans Leah Kennedy and Brooke Burns will join Nettles in the event. Both Burns and Kennedy rank in the top 25 in the Sun Belt in hammer throw distance.
Taylor and Edrich Alblas will compete in the 400m hurdles. JD Ferrell will compete with five other Trojans in the 800m – an event he placed second in last year at the UAB Spring Invite.
On the women's side, freshman Giulianna Rivero will make her collegiate debut in the 3000m steeplechase. Troy will be well represented in the 200m dash, as four athletes will compete.
