BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Troy track and field team had its best outdoor meet so far this season, as it recorded six first-place finishes at the UAB Spring Invite on Friday and Saturday at the UAB Track and Field Complex.
Javon Osbourne showed out for Troy with first-place finishes in the men's shot put and discus. In the shot put, Osbourne set a new facility record with an impressive mark of 17.54m. Last year, Osbourne set a facility record in the discus at the same meet.
Altwayne Bedward finished second in the shot put behind Osbourne and was third in the discus.
Cole Stewart had a strong showing in the javelin, throwing 66.60m, which was more than enough to earn him the top podium spot. Morgan Reese finished second in the hammer throw.
The women also dominated the throwing events, as Biniosa Ezukuse won the women's shot put with a mark of 14.43m. Joy Edward rounded out the podium spot with a third-place finish. Brooke Burns had a strong day going for second in the hammer and third in the discus. Shanara Richards was second in the women's discus, and Whitney Clark finished third in the javelin.
Jordan Bailey picked up the win in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.73m. Catherine Forbes finished just behind in her second place at 11.65m.
In the track events, Troy's Tajah Martin-Palmer finished second in the women's 100m hurdles, and Eugene Vickers finished second in the 110m hurdles. The men's 4x100m relay team of Dwight Mason, Jonas Koturenka, Edrich Alblas and Jasai Taylor finished second.
Alblas also finished third in the men's 400m hurdles.
All in all, Troy had 20 podium placements.
Thoughts from Coach
Director of Track and Field Marc Davis gave his thoughts following the meet:
"We had a very productive two days at UAB. Consistency is key during this stretch of the season. It's not easy at all. We are at the time in the season when things are achy, things hurt, and our brains are fried. However, track and field is really survival of the field to achieve, but so far, we have been consistent. We have to train hard, both mentally and physically, and be ready for the tough part of the season ahead."
