Super 16 Matchup Sees Troy Women’s Basketball Take On North Carolina A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Red hot after the first-ever postseason victory in program history against FIU, the Troy women's basketball team ventures to the Corbett Sports Center to matchup for the first-ever meeting with North Carolina A&T on Friday at 6 p.m.
With the victory over FIU to advance them to the Super 16, the Trojans improved to 20-11, 15-3 SBC, which marked the eighth 20-plus win season under head coach Chanda Rigby. Meanwhile, the Aggies (22-11, 13-5 CAA) are riding back-to-back wins in the WNIT, including a game-winning three to defeat Old Dominion in round two.

First-Ever Postseason Win
History will show that Monday night in Trojan Arena, the Troy women's basketball program seized its first-ever postseason victory, 92-62, over FIU. Ja'Mia Hollings led the way with a career-high 30 points on 13 makes from the field. She also grabbed her 13th double-double with 10 rebounds and three steals, three blocks to boost.
Troy entered the second half with a nine-point advantage, 43-34, and took over in the third quarter behind 73.3 percent shooting. The Trojan defense also smothered the Panthers, limiting them to 18.2 percent and zero makes from deep to explode into a 30-point victory.
The victory on Monday extends Troy's winning streak over nonconference opponents to four. With her 30-point game, Hollings moved to the top of the charts for Troy with 15.2 points in nonconference matchups, shooting 50.9 percent and grabbing 7.2 rebounds – both team-highs.
Friday's matchup with A&M marks the seventh first-time matchup in 2023-24. Through six games, the Trojans sit at 3-3 with wins over SFA, New Mexico State and Bowling Green. Makayia Hallmon has shined in first-time meetings with 16 points per game, followed by Nia Daniel (13.3), Hollings (13.2) and Tai'Sheka Porchia (13.0). The Trojans also dominate the rebound game in those matchups, outrebounding the opposition 265-223 for a plus-seven margin.
Two Rounds Through
A&T defeated UNC Greensboro, 56-51, and Old Dominion, 48-45, to advance into the Super 16 after losing to Stony Brook in its conference's semifinals, 59-51. The Aggies' matchup against Old Dominion saw senior guard Maleia Bracone hit the game-winning triple with 0.9 on the clock.
Bracone finished with 17 points while the team limited the Monarchs to 35.3 percent shooting from the field and forced 22 turnovers for the victory. The senior from Anderson, S.C., hasn't led the offense for the Aggies but does rank 56th in the nation in steals per game at 2.3. North Carolina A&T relies on its defense, which is the 17th-best scoring defense in the country, allowing just 55.8 points while sitting third nationally in opposing field goal percentage at 34.3.
