Women’s Tennis Struggles Against Marshall

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Troy women's tennis team struggled on Friday afternoon, as they fell to Marshall, 7-0, in the second dual of conference play.
Troy (7-5, 1-1 SBC) opened conference play last week with an impressive ranked win over No. 70 Georgia Southern, but that success did not correlate to its match against Marshall (10-6, 1-1 SBC).
The Trojans fell behind early as the Thundering Herd stormed through doubles action with a 6-2 win in the No. 2 spot and a 6-1 win in the No. 1 spot. The third doubles match went unfinished with Marshall leading 5-2. Troy has now lost the doubles point in six consecutive matches. The Trojans are 4-0 this season when taking a 1-0 lead, but 3-5 when trailing 1-0.
Singles weren't kind to Troy either, as Marshall won all six singles points without dropping a set. Gabrielle Leslie's perfect start to the season came to an end, as she fell 7-6, 6-4 in the No. 6 spot. Going into Friday, Leslie was 11-0 in singles this spring.
Until Friday, Troy had scored at least two points in every dual this season. The last time Troy lost 7-0 was March 11, 2023 against South Alabama and the last time it failed to secure a point was April 26, 2023 against Texas State in the Sun Belt Tournament.
