Men’s Tennis Rebounds, Defeats James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Troy men's tennis team bounced back to defeat James Madison, 4-1, Friday afternoon in Sun Belt Conference action at the Hillside Courts after the Trojans saw their six-match win streak end in contested fashion on Wednesday.

As has been the case the last two years, Troy's success traced to the doubles point against JMU. The Trojans (15-3, 1-1 SBC) won on courts two and three to claim the 1-0 lead on Friday, pushing their record to 29-1 the last two seasons when winning the first point of the match.

Mario Martinez Serrano and Luciano Alcocer improved to 8-0 as a duo, winning 6-1 on court three, while Carles Anton and Yeray Andres Pastor improved to 5-1 as a pair with a 6-3 win on court two.

Martinez bounced back from his first loss of the season, making quick work in a 6-2, 6-3 win on court one to give Troy a 2-0 lead.

The Dukes (7-6, 0-1) scored their lone point of the match, winning on court two before Pastor improved his spring tally to 14-2 with his seventh straight victory and second on court four after he moved up a spot in the lineup Friday.

Noah Martens clinched the victory for the Trojans, winning 6-5, 7-5 on court three as he improved to 14-3 on the year. Nicolas Simkin led 5-0 in the third set when the match was called off; it was just his second singles match in the past month.

Troy opens a three-match Sun Belt home swing next Saturday against Louisiana.
