ROME, Ga. - Troy men's tennis fell in the Sun Belt Championship match on Sunday to No. 54 Old Dominion, 4-1.
Troy (24-5) jumped out to an early lead, earning the doubles point over the top-seeded Monarchs.
Luciano Alcocer and Hiiro Sakamoto won on Court 2, 6-3 before Stephan Noale and Thiago Drozdowski gutted out a 6-4 victory on Court 1.
The match then turned to singles, where Old Dominion (20-6) took control, winning five of the six first sets.
Hiiro Sakamoto was the lone Trojan to win his first set, breaking his opponent's serve to wrap up the first frame, 7-5 on Court 4. Sakamoto's match would go on to be unfinished following a second-set win from ODU.
The Monarchs evened the score with a win on Court 1, and the match remained tied as Troy battled across multiple courts.
Luciano Alcocer and Stephan Tavares Noale won second sets on their respective courts, which included a 7-4 tiebreak from Alcocer.
Old Dominion moved ahead 3-1 with straight-set victories on Courts 3 and 6.
Shortly after, Noale faced match point at deuce, trailing 5-1 in the third set. The freshman saved the first and forced another game, but Old Dominion capitalized on a second match point in the final rally to secure the championship.
The Trojans finish the season 24-5, marking the program's most wins since 2015 - the last time Troy reached the Sun Belt Championship match.
For their efforts over the weekend, multiple Trojans earned All-Tournament Team honors.
Andrés Pastor was recognized on Court 3, while Luciano Alcocer and Hiiro Sakamoto were selected at the No. 2 doubles position.
Additionally, Andrés Pastor received the Elite Award, presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA among the championship match participants.
