Reset the Streak
After extending the fourth-longest conference win streak in program history at nine with a win at ULM, 94-83, the Trojans were handed their first loss since Georgia State on Dec. 31, 90-89. Four Trojans (Nia Daniel – 18.5, Makayia Hallmon – 17.5, Tai'Sheka Porchia – 15.5, Ja'Mia Hollings – 14) led the charge to go 1-1 over the weekend as the only players to average above three points a game.
Thursday's victory over ULM saw the Trojans rely on their rebound identity to secure the 94-83 victory in a hostile environment. Troy managed to win the rebound battle 66-35 to secure 33 second-chance points. Most of the rebounds came from Porchia, as she earned 11 on the offensive end (17 total) – the most by an SBC player since 2018.
The win streak fell one game short of head coach Chanda Rigby's first double-digit win streak in a single season on a 72-63 loss at the hands of USM. Troy shot well through the opening 20 minutes to head into the locker room with a 41-31 advantage. However, the second half saw Troy struggle to be outscored 41-22 after shooting 25 percent.
Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. has been circled on the Trojans' calendar since Friday, March 3, when Old Dominion sent them home early from the SBC Tournament, 86-83, after a controversial missed call for six women on the court with 4.7 seconds left. The missed call allowed ODU to have a wide-open game-winning lay-up and ended an 18-point comeback in the fourth quarter. Hallmon led the charge for the near-comeback with 26 points on 12-of-24 from the field.
Maintaining the Monarchs
Old Dominion rattled off a three-game win streak over App State, Georgia State and Texas State before falling to the Red Wolves, 76-63, to find itself in a three-way tie for the fourth and final two-round bye slot.
Saturday was a tale of two halves, with Old Dominion holding a 35-29 advantage at halftime until Arkansas State reversed the momentum by shooting 61.5 percent in the third and 71.4 in the fourth. Compared to ODU's 38.5 and 33.3 percent, respectively, and the Monarchs were outscored 47-28.
Through 11 SBC games, the Monarchs remain staples for the league via the defensive end. Old Dominion leads the league in steals at 120 (10.9) and ranks third in blocked shots at 3.2. Their scoring comes with a spread-out approach, with only En'Dya Buford averaging double-figures at 11.4 while 12 players average above 1.4 points.
