Women’s Tennis Defeats Alabama State in Home Opener

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team picked up a big 5-2 win over Alabama State in its home opener on Saturday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
Troy (2-0) picked up the doubles point for the first time this season, as Hagar Ramadan-Amin and Olivia Elliott picked up a 6-4 win in the No. 3 spot to clinch the point. Kristina Kukaras and Maria Guirguis got doubles action started with a 6-3 win in the No. 1 spot.
The final doubles match was played out despite the team point already being awarded to the Trojans. Alabama State (0-3) picked up the No. 2 doubles match, 7-5.
Kukaras kept the momentum from doubles play going as she had a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in the No. 1 spot to extend the Trojan lead to two. Gabrielle Leslie got the Trojans within one point of the team victory with a 6-0, 6-3 win on Court 6.
Leena Metwally picked up the fourth point and team victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win on Court 5. The two teams agreed to play out the remaining three matches. Maria Guirguis picked up a 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 victory on Court 3 to make the Trojan lead 5-0.
Alabama State clinched the final two points of the match in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.
Metwally and Leslie each move to 2-0 on the season in singles play.

Troy is back on the court next Friday and Saturday as they take on Alabama A&M and Alcorn State at the Lunsford Tennis Complex. Friday's match is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the Saturday match starting at 10 a.m. Live stats will be available for both matches at TroyStats.com.
