Troy Women’s Tennis Opens Play at Sun Belt Tournament

ROME, Ga. – After going 12-7 in the regular season with a 6-1 record against SBC opponents the Troy women's tennis team earned the No.3 seed in the Sun Belt Tournament. By securing such a top-four seed, the Trojans earned a bye into the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
Troy will make their postseason on Friday, taking on the winner of Thursday's contest between No.6 App State and No. 11 Southern Miss.
During the regular season, Troy was led by seniors Maria Guirguis and Valeriia Avdeeva. Both seniors earned 13 and 11 wins respectively, playing on courts one and two. The senior duo led the doubles charge as well going 17-9 on court one.
No.6 App State enters play with a 12-10 record and concluded the regular season on a five-match win streak. Their latest victory came in 4-1 fashion over No. 13 Georgia State last Saturday. In singles play the Mountaineers are led by senior Savannah Dada-Mascoll who is 20-1 on court one this season.
No. 11 Southern Miss enters play 8-9 and losers of their last two. The Golden Eagles and Trojans have history as they met on Troy's senior day to close out the month of March. Troy defeated Southern Miss 4-1 behind strong showings in both singles and doubles play.
Troy's quarterfinal matchup is set for Friday, April 24 at 1:30 p.m. CT. All Sun Belt Tournament matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
