NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Sun Belt announced its women's tennis postseason awards on Wednesday, with two Trojans earning all-conference recognition.
Maria Guirguis was named to the Singles First Team after leading Troy with a 14-3 record on Court 1 this season. The Alexandria, Egypt native opened the spring with 14 consecutive victories and went 5-3 against Sun Belt opponents.
"It was an amazing year for Maria," head coach Rawia Elsisi said. "She competed at the No. 1 position all year and showed tremendous toughness in every match she played."
Guirguis showed consistent dominance throughout the season, winning 10 matches in straight sets. She also held leads in two additional matches that went unfinished. The senior closed her career with a 54-27 record in dual matches.
Guirguis also earned Doubles Second Team honors alongside fellow senior Valeriia Avdeeva. The Trojans' top pair, the duo finished the spring 11-5 on Court 1 and posted a 5-3 mark in conference play, including wins over South Alabama, Arkansas State and Georgia Southern.
"Maria and Valeriia are the leaders of this team and both showed tremendous improvement throughout their career," Elsisi said. "I cannot be prouder on how they finished senior year on a very well-deserved award."
