Women’s Tennis Comes Up Short Against Middle Tennessee

Murfreesboro, Tenn. – The Troy women's tennis team struggled on Sunday morning, as they fell to Middle Tennessee 5-2 at the Adams Tennis Complex.
Troy (5-3) dropped its second consecutive match of the weekend after falling 5-2 against Belmont on Saturday afternoon. The Trojans dropped the doubles point on Sunday, as MTSU (8-6) picked a 6-3 win in the No. 2 spot and a 6-2 win in the No. 3 spot to take a 1-0 lead. The No. 1 doubles match went unfinished with the two teams tied at 4-4.
The Blue Raiders also picked up the first singles point with a 6-2, 6-0 win on Court 2 to take a 2-0 lead. The Trojans responded on Court 5, as Leena Metwally secured a massive 6-4, 6-1 win to make it 2-1. Metwally moves to 7-1 this spring in singles action.
MTSU answered back with a 6-2, 6-4 win in the No. 1 singles spot to make it a 3-1 game and get within one point of the match victory. The match was clinched on Court 3, as the Blue Raiders pulled out a 6-3, 6-3 win.
Even with the dual being decided, the two remaining matches were played out. Gabrielle Leslie remains perfect this spring with an 8-0 record after defeating MTSU's Lilly-Sophie Schmidt 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.
The final point of the match went to MTSU, as it won 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 on Court 4.
The Trojans return to action on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Complex in Troy as they take on Samford. Live stats for the match will be available on Troystats.com.
