Springer Leads Troy Men’s Golf at Border Olympics

LAREDO, Texas – Jake Springer fired a season-best 66 in Tuesday's final round of the Border Olympics to climb up the leaderboard into seventh place; the Trojans finished in a tie for eighth place as a team as play wrapped up Tuesday at the Laredo Country Club.

Springer carded seven birdies and just one bogey during his round of 6-under, which tied Brantley Scott's 66 from the fall for the lowest round by a Trojan golfer this season. He finished 7-under for the week and carded three straight birdies at one point during Tuesday's round.

Troy slipped into eighth place as a team following Tuesday's round despite shooting 1-under on the day as a group. Illinois State maintained its opening day advantage at the top of the leaderboard to win the team title over a group of three teams tied for second place.

Brantley Scott turned in his first top-25 finish of the season after he tied for 21^st place at 3-under for the week following a 72 on Tuesday thanks to four birdies during his round. Will Simpson had an up-and-down round with four birdies as he shot 2-over on the day to finish tied for 35^th place at 1-over.

Lee Poppell, who was 5-under in round two, shot 3-over on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 42^nd place at 3-over, while Nick Fowlkes tied for 44^th place at 4-over after shooting 76 in the final round.

Troy is back in action on March 4-5 at the Dayton Beach Intercollegiate.
