Record-Breaking Performances
On Wednesday night, Troy fired on all cylinders for its ninth win over Louisiana in the last 11 meetings. After being down in the first 13-11, the Trojans would outscore ULL 79-31 in the next 30 minutes on 61.5 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from deep to set a program record for the largest margin of victory over an SBC opponent at 46.
For the first time in 2023-24, Zay Dyer led the Trojans in scoring with 18 points and nine rebounds on 7-of-12 from the field. Tai'Sheka Porchia also managed to record her fourth double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in just 24 minutes. From deep, Nia Daniel was lethal as she recorded three triples in quarter No. 3 to hit 15 points.
Saturday marks the second-ever meeting between the programs, with Troy falling in the first on Jan. 21, 2023, 80-79. Makayia Hallmon put on heroic moves to score 33 points in the loss, shooting 14-of-25. Troy mounted a fourth-quarter comeback, but a 5-0 run with under a minute left by JMU sealed the victory.
Since SBC play began, Troy has returned to form with a 3-1 start to sit tied for third in the league. The Trojans also sit atop the conference, scoring 84.8 points over the last four games while limiting the opposition to a league-leading 36.4 percent shooting from the field. Add in the second and third-ranked rebounders in the league, Porchia (10) and Ja'Mia Hollings (10), respectively, and the Trojans are on fire.
Duke Report
James Madison couldn't ask for a better start to conference play as it looks to repeat as both regular-season and tournament champions, opening SBC play at 4-0 on wins over ULM, Arkansas State, Louisiana and Southern Miss.
All four games for JMU have been decided by seven or fewer points, including one overtime finish to Louisiana. The Dukes' most recent win saw an 81-76 victory over the Golden Eagles. The game remained close throughout, with the largest lead being nine late in the fourth quarter. However, a career-high of 33 from Peyton McDaniel and a late 6-0 run with just over a minute to go saw JMU pull it out.
McDaniel's career-high brought her already team-high scoring average to 12.8 points. The 6-0 guard also leads the team with 7.3 rebounds and sits second with 12 total steals. At 12 and 11.8, Jamia Hazell and Kseniia Kozlova, respectively, sit in double figures with McDaniel. The Dukes lead the conference in rebound margin, having outrebounded their opponents 756-538 to sit at +13.7.
