GRADY, Ala. – The Troy men's and women's cross country team posted victories Friday morning in the Huntingdon 6k/8k, with Cadi Rowe claiming her first career individual first-place finish.
"We certainly had a good day with both teams picking up the win and Cadi Rowe scoring her first career cross country individual victory," head coach Brian Cunningham said. "We showed some solid progression on a tough course. We have some sharpening work to accomplish a month before the Sun Belt Championships, but I'm very happy with our current fitness."
Rowe led a clean sweep of the top six positions in the 6k race, topping the charts at 23:51.60. The senior paced the field of Trojans, ending her career with back-to-back podium finishes in the meet.
Freshman Lucy Turley, Giulanna Rivero and Rhema Taylor all seized their best collegiate finish with a second, fourth and fifth, respectively. Turley clocked in her first 6k meet at 24:09.40, while Rivero (25:45.10) and Taylor (25:52.20) ended in the 25-minute mark.
The freshman trio was broken up by sophomore Makenna Calbert, who improved her 2022 time by 44 seconds at 24:19.00. By coming across the finish line in third, Calbert claimed the highest finish in her collegiate career.
Aisley McMeen came up short of the top five but was able to round out the top six with a time of 26:37.30 to secure the victory for the women. Kady Schwietz and Sydney Lockner also posted top 20 finishes at 13th(27:58.20) and 16th (32:51.90), respectively.
Two Trojans claimed podium spots on the men's side, with freshman Keith Warner continuing his dominance with a second-place finish. Warner came close to gold but ended 0:12.30 short of Huntingdon's Mac Brooks. Senior Tyler Baker ended the meet with a bronze finish, jumping seven spots higher than in 2022 at 27:48.10.
Zane McPeters and Dylan Nelson battled against one another for the final top-five spot, with McPeters ultimately coming out on top by less than one second. The freshman toppled the senior, finishing at 28:09.80 compared to 28:10.40.
