TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Troy cross country program wrapped up its regular season with a 20th-place finish for the men and 24th for the women at the Alabama Crimson Classic on Friday morning.
"To be honest, this was a productive day," head coach Brian Cunningham said. "We have a very young team, none of whom have raced a meet with this caliber of competition. It was good for them to experience a race that goes out hard and stays fast. We had several people operating at less than 100 percent today. I was impressed with their ability to push through and give their team what they had on the day. We'll heal up, recover from some illness and be ready to go at the Sun Belt in two weeks."
Competing on the Harry Pritchett Running Course, Cadi Rowe paced the Trojans for the second consecutive week in her final regular season meet. The senior started in 151st through the opening 2000m before rising 22 spots to 129th by the 4000m mark. As she crossed the finish, Rowe bumped her way to 118th at 22:15.50.
Makenna Calbert found herself consistent throughout the 6000m event, sticking around the 150-160 place range. Calbert opened the first 2000m one spot behind Rowe and maintained her way through to finish in 161stwhen she crossed at 22:54.70.
Meanwhile, Kady Schwietz, Giulianna Rivero and Sydney Lockner secured new season bests in the 6000m, improving their performances from the Huntingdon Invitational. The trio finished with times of 25:37.60 (213th), 25:44.30 (214th) and 29:01.80 (217th), respectively.
On the men's side, the group remained together from start to finish, wrapping up the event just 30 spots from top to bottom. Keith Warner sweeps the season for Troy as the top finisher for the men in all four meets in 2023, placing 180th at 27:26.80.
Caden Blackman and Tyler Baker weren't far behind, crossing the finish line in 185th (27:43.50) and 188th(27:46.00), respectively. Zane McPeters had the highest rise from start to finish, sitting in 208th at the 2000m mark. The freshman battled, rising 17 spots in the following 6k to earn 191st at 27:49.60.
The Trojans next stop is at the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Oct. 28 in Foley, Ala.
