TROY, Ala. – Coming off a big Senior Day win on Monday, the Troy men's tennis team wraps the regular season part of its schedule this weekend with road matches at Augusta and Coastal Carolina on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Troy (15-6, 3-4 SBC) picked up a key 4-2 victory over a Georgia Southern team that has been ranked in the top 75 this season. The win ended a run where the Trojans had lost four of their last five matches, all by 4-3 scores.
Senior Vito Llinares was the hero for the Trojans against the Eagles, winning the clinching match in both doubles and singles. He and Noah Martens rallied from down 5-1 to clinch the doubles point before he rallied once again on court five in singles to put the win in the books for Troy.
Freshman Mario Martinez Serrano improved his league record to 6-1 with a three-set win on court one, where he is now 18-3 on the season, while Carles Anton moved to 14-4 overall and 4-2 in the league with quick work on court two.
The Trojans are 4-4 away from home this season and 1-2 in league play on the road. Augusta, which is Division II in tennis, is ranked fifth in the Southeast Region Rankings with a 12-5 record, while Coastal Carolina is 10-10 on the year and 1-5 in league play.
