Men’s Tennis Ends Non-Conference Schedule with 6-1 Win in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. – In the program's final non-conference match of 2023, Troy men's tennis secured a 6-1 victory against Augusta on Saturday morning to end at 12-2.
Back-to-back wins for the Trojans (16-6, 3-4 SBC) marks the first win streak since they won four in a row back from March 5 – 18. For Augusta (14-7, 1-3 PBC), a loss drops them to 6-5 at home with one match remaining in the Newman Tennis Center.
Doubles got Troy up early when Carles Anton / Yeray Andres Pastor won doubles on court one 6-1, beating out court two's Francisco Errasmuspe / Mario Martinez 6-3 victory.
The Trojans continued their dominance into singles, with the victory secured early, 4-0, as three straight points were earned in set sweeps. Martinez claimed victory on court one, 6-3, 6-1, while Andres Pastor (6-2, 6-0) and Erramuspe (6-3, 6-2) took courts three and six, respectively.
Court four was a sweep for Noah Martens but not without a gritty battle with Herick Isago. A tight first set, 6-4, set up a nailbiting second that saw a tiebreaker. With the final point up for the taking, Martens pulled away late for a 7-6 (7-4) victory, 5-0.
Anton seized Troy's final point, 6-0, on court two. Unlike his fellow Trojans, Anton battled from behind after falling in set one, 6-4. The junior flipped the script in the second, blanking his opponent 6-0. The third set stayed competitive, but the Valencia native carried the momentum to a 6-4 victory for a sixth point.
