Men's Tennis Runs Win Streak to Seven with Victory over Alabama State

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team continued its hot start to the season with a 5-2 victory over Alabama State Tuesday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex for its seventh straight victory.

Troy's (7-1) seven-match winning streak is its longest since the 2021 squad won 10 straight matches.

Freshman Mario Martinez Serrano won for the seventh straight time with a three-set battle on court one. After splitting the first two sets 6-3, 3-6, Martinez dominated the final frame by a 6-1 margin to improve to 7-1 on the spring and 15-4 overall as a collegiate player.

The Trojans won the doubles point thanks to a rally from Vito Llinares and Noah Martens on court two. Down 5-4, the duo battled back to claim the match 7-5 and put the first point on Troy's side of the scoreboard.

Yeray Andres Pastor put the Trojans up 2-0 with quick work on court five, winning 6-1, 6-2, and Llinares had a similar result on court six, winning 7-5, 6-1, to clinch the match for Troy following Martinez's win on court one. Martens put Troy's final point on the board, winning 7-6 (2), 6-4 on court four in his third straight win since rejoining the team.

The Hornets (1-7) salvaged a pair of points, winning on courts two and three, with both matches going to a third-set tiebreak. Carles Anton's loss on court two was his first of the spring and snapped a seven-match winning streak dating back to the fall.

Troy returns to action Sunday morning against Nicholls State; first serve is set for 11 a.m.
