Women’s Basketball Closes Regular Season at South Alabama

TROY, Ala. – With Sun Belt Tournament seeding and the regular season title still up for grabs, the Troy women's basketball team travels to South Alabama Friday evening for the regular season finale. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Troy (17-11, 12-5 SBC) can win its third Sun Belt regular season title in the last four years with a victory over the Jags (6-22, 2-15) and a James Madison loss to Marshall. However, the waters are a little but muddier when it comes to seeding for the Sun Belt Tournament next week.
The highest Troy can enter the tournament is as the No. 2 seed despite what happens with the James Madison and Marshall game due to the Trojans' earlier loss to the Dukes. If the four teams all tied for second place win on Friday – Troy, Texas State, Southern Miss and Old Dominion – the Trojans head to Pensacola as the No. 5 seed. However, a Southern Miss loss to Louisiana shifts the Trojans back to the No. 2 seed.
The Trojans head to Mobile looking to shake off some late-season rust that has saw them lose three of their last five games after opening league play 10-2. Troy has scored 73-plus points in each of the last five games; in fact, Troy has scored 73 or more points in 21 straight games, the longest such streak in the country. Troy ranks in the top four nationally in rebounds, offensive rebounds, scoring and free throws.
In the first meeting with their in-state rival, the Trojans led by five at the break before outscoring the Jags by 13 in the third quarter en route to a 19-point victory on Jan. 26 in Trojan Arena. Ja'Mia Hollings had one of the best games in Troy history in the victory scoring 23 points and pulling down 20 rebounds, while Mae Mae Hallmon added 14 points and Shaniah Nunn had 12 points.
Troy has won seven straight games in the series with South Alabama, including the last three in the Mitchell Center. The Jags enter Friday's game, having lost four straight and eight of their last nine games.
