Women’s Basketball Set for APSU Christmas Tournament

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Troy women's basketball program continues its road trip by ending non-conference play with a pair of games set at the APSU Christmas Tournament. Game one sees Troy battle SFA at the F&M Bank Arena on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. before taking on New Mexico State on Thursday at noon.
Both games are first-ever matchups between the programs and mark the fourth and fifth first-time meeting of 2023-24. The Trojans (1-7) look to end non-conference play on a win for the seventh time in the last 10 years.

Still Improving
The Trojans couldn't maintain their winning ways on Sunday against Iowa State as they fell 105-68 in the Hilton Coliseum. Makayia Hallmon erased a quiet first three quarters by erupting for 15 points on 7-of-10 from the field in the fourth.
Ja'Mia Hollings was the only other Trojan to reach double-digits when she finished with 10 points on 4-of-7 from the field. Meanwhile, Felmas Koranga returned to the court for the first time in 13 months to produce eight points in eight minutes.
The Trojans remain among the best in the Sun Belt Conference in assists and turnovers as a unit. Troy combines for a 1.04 assist/turnover ratio to rank second in the SBC and 70th in the nation. Additionally, Troy ranks second in turnovers (14) and fourth in assists (14.6).
Individually, the Trojans look to Sharonica Hartsfield and Shaulana Wagner as they rank third (4.5) and fifth (3.9) in assists per game, respectively. The pair also ranks second and third in assist/turnover ratio at 2.07 and 2.00, respectively.
Looking at the Lumberjacks
SFA (6-4, 2-0 WAC) enters the tournament on a two-game losing streak to Middle Tennessee and Alabama. The Lumberjacks couldn't take the lid off the basket against Middle Tennessee as they managed to shoot 36 percent from the field, with only Kurstyn Harden finding her way in double figures at 11.
Harden remains a force within the WAC as she leads the conference in field goal percentage at 55.7 while sitting third in field goals (59) and rebounds per game (7.9).
Scouting State
In contrast to SFA, New Mexico State enters the tournament on a two-game winning streak, with wins over Utah Valley and Western New Mexico. In the 70-39 victory over Utah Valley, the Aggies shot 53.2 percent from the field and 46.2 from deep while limiting the opposition to 28 and 12.5, respectively.
Molly Kaiser (14.5) and Femme Sikuzani Masudi (11.5) top the charts in scoring as they average double-figures. The Aggies also share the wealth with rebounds, as all 13 players average at least 1.2 per game. As a unit, New Mexico State leads the MWC in field goal percentage at 42.6 and from deep at 35.
