Women’s Basketball Takes on Big 12 Opponent Iowa State

TROY, Ala. – After a week-long hiatus from the court, Troy women's basketball gears for its sole Big 12 opponent of 2023-24, Iowa State, for a date on Sunday at noon in the Hilton Coliseum.
The Trojans (1-6) caught a revival after breaking through for their first win of the season over UT Martin. Now, they set their sights on the first win streak since the team won four straight from Jan. 26 – Feb. 4 last season in the first meeting with the Cyclones (5-4) since 1993.

Broke Through
A nine-game losing streak that continued from last year crashed to a halt last Saturday as the Trojans shot a season-high 41.5 percent from the field for the 71-59 victory over UT Martin in Trojan Arena.
Nia Daniel continued to lead the Trojan offense with a 15-point performance, while Tai'Sheka Porchia and Makayia Hallmon followed her with 13 and 12, respectively. Sharonica Hartsfield lit up the stat sheet off the bench with a plus-20 on the court on seven points, three assists, and four steals.
Troy led nearly the entirety of the ballgame, including its first time leading the end of a quarter, 16-13, and heading into the locker room for halftime, 33-24. Despite UT Martin ramping up the offensive efficiency in the second half, Troy managed to outscore them 21-19 in the third, with the pivotal moment coming in a 0:26 span on a 7-0 run to push the lead back to 18, 46-28, with 4:59 left – included a free throw by Porchia, second chance lay-in by Zay Dyer, layup for Leilani Guion and two steals and a bucket for Hartsfield.
The first win for Troy came at the help of its defense, which managed to force 26 turnovers on 13 steals. Those numbers helped boost the Trojans ranking in the SBC as they rose to ninth in steals and 12th in turnovers forced with 9.1 and 16.3, respectively.
Circling the Cyclones
The Cyclones enter Sunday on a similar hiatus from the court, with their last game coming on Dec. 10 against North Dakota State, where six players scored in double-figures en route to an 89-59 win.
The Cyclone offense couldn't be stopped as they produced a whopping 55.9 percent from the field despite not having a single bucket on the fast break. On the defensive side, they limited the Bisons to 30.8 percent from the field. Overall, it was Addy Brown having herself a day with a near triple-double on 16 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists.
Brown ranks second on the Cyclone offense with 14.4 points per game while being the team's leading rebounder at 8.1. Ahead of her is Audi Brooks, averaging 64.4 percent from the field for 15.6 points – field goal percentage ranks 12th in the nation. Iowa State excels with ball movement with 20.6 assists per game to rank ninth in the country and third in the Big 12.
