After losing two of its previous three games in overtime heading into its game on Friday, Troy responded big time against Grambling State. Needing a win, the Troy defense clamped down and the offense took care of the basketball to keep the Trojans out in front.
After Grambling State went on a 12-0 run early in the game, Troy settled down and brought a two-point lead into the break. Eugene had 15 of his 23 points in the first 20 minutes.
The Trojans pulled away in the second half and never looked back. The team shot a season-high 39 free throws and made a season-high 27 free throws.
Troy also limited itself to 12 turnovers, which is the number Scott Cross and company look not to exceed. In two of Troy's three wins, they have been at 12 turnovers. In all three losses, Troy has gone over that mark.
Despite scoring in single digits for only the second time all season, Tayton Conerway was a team-high +17 in his 20 minutes on the court.
Eugene also scored his 600th career D-I point, as the Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team member continues his hot start to the season.
