Men’s Tennis Heads to Mercer Gridiron Classic

TROY, Ala. – Coming off a strong performance at the ITA All-American last weekend, the Troy men's tennis team travels to Macon, Ga., for the annual Mercer Gridiron Classic. Doubles action opens Friday at 7 a.m. (CT) with singles play to follow at noon.
Troy individuals recorded five wins at the ITA All-American last week in Tulsa against some of the nation's elite talent. Three Trojans who picked up victories at the ITA event will join a pair of players making their season debut this weekend in the Mercer event.
Benjamin Ambrosio started off the season with a strong 6-4, 6-3 victory over an opponent from Oklahoma State as he made his first appearance in a Troy uniform after transferring from LSU. He will be joined in the "A" draw by Nicolas Simkin and Yeray Andres Pastor, who both earned wins last week. Noah Martens will also play in the top draw this weekend after sitting out the ITA with a minor injury.
Freshman Luciano Alcocer and Jacksonville State transfer Vicente Arbelaez will make their Troy debuts this weekend playing in the "B" draw.
In doubles, Arbelaez and Pastor will team up for one spot in the A2 draw, while Alcocer and Simkin will line up together on the bottom of the draw. In the A1 flight, it will be the tandem of Ambrosio and Martens representing the Trojans.
