Men’s Tennis Strong on Opening Day at Mercer Gridiron

MACON, Ga. – Coming off a strong opening weekend performance at the ITA All-American last week, the Troy men's tennis team picked up where it left off Friday. A pair of Troy doubles teams will play for titles on Sunday, while three Trojans picked up singles victories.

The combo of Yeray Andres Pastor and Vicente Arbelaez earned wins over Alabama State and Georgia Southern to advance to one of the doubles finals, while Noah Martens and Benjamin Ambrosio dropped just six games over their two matches en route to a championship appearance. After dropping its first match, the pair of Nicolas Simkin and Luciano Alcocer rebounded for an 8-3 win in the consolation bracket.

In singles, Arbelaez, Pastor and Martens all locked up round one wins Friday afternoon. All three won in straight sets, with Pastor dropping just four sets combined. The victories put the trio into the quarterfinals of their respective draws, with the quarterfinals and semifinals set for Saturday.
