Fowlkes Leads Troy Men’s Golf at Everett Classic

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's golf team split its forces on Monday, with one group playing against a strong field at the Everett Buick GMC Classic, while a second group is playing an individual tournament at the MartinFed Invite at Turtle Point.

Against a field that includes Michigan, LSU and Nebraska, Troy is tied for seventh place at the Everett Classic behind a 5-under day from Nick Fowlkes and a 1-under from Gage Carnes – only seven teams managed to finish the second round before play was stopped due to darkness. Lee Poppell paced the Trojans in the individual event, shooting 8-under in the first 36 holes, with a pair of rounds in the 60s.

Fowlkes made a huge move up the leaderboard to close out the day as he went from 1-over par to 3-under in the span of five holes as he birdied four of his last five offerings of the day; he finished the second round with seven birdies to go along with four in the morning round. Fowlkes is tied for fifth place and just three shots off the pace.

Carnes shot 2-under in the second round with four birdies to climb into a tie for 19^th place, while Pablo Gracia is a shot back in a tie for 25^th place after shooting even-par, thanks to a 2-under 70 in the morning; he's now played six of his 11 rounds under par this season.

Jake Springer is tied for 55^th place at 5-over par, and Brantley Scott shot matching 75s to finish the day tied for 58^th place.

In the individual event, Laurenz Kubin is tied for 22^nd place at 1-over par, Will Simpson is a shot back in a tie for 26^th, George Burch is tied for 46^th place at 6-over par and Greg Jones shot 8-over to finish the opening day tied for 55^th.

Both events wrap up Tuesday with one more round.
