Troy Ties for Eighth at Sun Belt Men’s Golf Championship

MADISON, Miss. – The Troy men's golf team finished in a tie for eighth place at the Sun Belt Men's Golf Championship, as stroke play concluded early Thursday morning at the Annandale Golf Course.

Teams faced several weather delays Wednesday afternoon while trying to finish the third round. Play was finally halted at 7:23 p.m. as Lawton Emblom was preparing to take his tee shot on Troy's final hole.

Troy had difficulty maintaining consistency in the final round, finishing 15-over as a team after shooting 1-under on Tuesday. The Trojans made six birdies during the round, three of which were by Pablo Gracia.

The Trojans were among the best in the field in pars, finishing the week tied for third with 168, but tied for 12^th with 35 birdies over the three rounds.

Lee Poppell finished 3-over for the tournament and tied for 18^th place after shooting 2-over in the final round. Starting on No. 10, Poppell made the turn 2-under after birdies on the 11^th and 16^th, but a double on No. 1 and bogeys on his final two holes pushed his card out of the red.

Gracia, Emblom and Thomas Crane all tied for 32^nd position at 6-over for the week. Gracia shot 75 in the final round, thanks to his three birdies, while Emblom and Crane were both 5-over on the day. Haston Emblom subbed in for Grant Yerger in the final round and shot an 8-over 80.

Coastal Carolina, Arkansas State, Southern Miss and South Alabama advanced to match play, with James Madison missing out on the top four by one shot after shooting 6-over in the final round.
