Conference Home Opener
The Trojans led by 13 points with 11:30 remaining before Old Dominion switched to a zone defense to open an 11-1 run that closed the margin to three, 63-60.
The next possession saw Nelson Phillips reclaim the momentum. But not until after Bryce Baker blocked his first attempt. Luckily, Christyon Eugene was there to grab the rejection and dish it to Phillips, who converted his second-chance, 65-60, at the 14:54 mark.
Both sides exchanged blows from the charity stripe before Phillips hit the dagger off his second steal on the night. The senior guard stole the ball from Chaunce Jenkins and delivered a slam on the other end with 1:02 remaining, 74-68.
Troy hit its remaining free throws to secure the 78-71 victory, returning to the top of the scoring charts with 17 points. Zay Williams came up big on the defensive end, tying a career-high four blocks.
