TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's soccer team hopes to continue the momentum from its first win of the season in game two of the South Alabama Tournament on Sunday at noon against North Alabama in Hancock Whitney Stadium.
The Trojans (1-2) look to extend their win streak in non-Sun Belt Conference tournaments to eight – last loss came against Alabama, 3-0, at the Jaguar Classic in 2017, while the Lions (2-0-1) aim to continue their perfect season.
First Win for Robert Lane
Troy opened the match against the Cowgirls strong after being held scoreless through the opening weekend against Texas Tech and Alabama A&M. Jayla Gage's first goal as a Trojan got Troy rolling just 11 minutes into the first half off the assist of Ella Owen.
Erin Bloomfield kept the gears going when she completed a penalty kick opportunity at the 34:11 mark to extend the lead, 2-0, after McNeese State's goalkeeper, Jackie Kelly, committed a foul inside the penalty box.
After a quick response from the Cowgirls brought the score to 2-1 just 45 seconds later, things began to slow down on both sides. Then, Jordan Stack broke the silence 46 minutes later off a corner kick from Gabrielle Chartier. The goal from Stack marked the first time since Oct. 6, 2019, that three players scored a goal for Troy since Kiersten Edlund, Maddie Brune and Nathali Sailva scored in a 4-1 win over Georgia Southern.
