TROY, Ala. – Troy soccer scored twice in the second half to rally past Arkansas State, 2-1, on Sunday at the Troy Soccer Complex, earning an important victory on Senior Day.
The Trojans conceded in the first half but responded after the break with goals from Grace DeShetler and Alaina Uncapher. Troy generated the better chances in the second half and finished with six shots on goal.
The afternoon began with a defensive emphasis, as shots were at a premium in the opening stages. Arkansas State broke through in the 33rd minute when Kennedy Horn sent a shot past the Troy defense and into the bottom-left corner of the net.
Troy struggled to find its rhythm in the first half and went into the locker room trailing by a goal while being outshot 7-3.
The second half was a different story for the Trojans, who came out with renewed energy. DeShetler equalized in the 48th minute, firing a shot into the bottom-right corner for her first career goal. The do-it-all midfielder found the back of the net on her 44th career shot.
Just five minutes later, Troy took the lead. Uncapher headed home a perfectly placed delivery from Isabella Hartofelis to put the Trojans ahead, 2-1.
Taylor Richards made several important saves down the stretch as Troy battled to protect its lead. With just six minutes remaining, an Arkansas State player got on the end of a dangerous ball into the box, but Richards dove to her right to keep the shot out.
The Trojans held on through the final whistle to secure the Senior Day victory and take another step toward qualifying for the Sun Belt Championship.
Quotable – Head Coach Jake Wyman
"It was a must win for us today to keep the season alive and give ourselves a chance going into the final week of the season. I'm delighted that we were able to find three points and a win today."
