MOBILE, Ala. – Troy women's soccer wraps up its four-match road trip with a draw, 0-0, in game two of the South Alabama Tournament against North Alabama on Sunday afternoon at the Hancock Whitney Stadium.
The Trojans (1-2-1) extend their unbeaten streak in non-Sun Belt Conference tournaments to eight – last loss came against Alabama, 3-0, at the Jaguar Classic in 2017. The Lions (2-0-2) continue to be undefeated this season through the first two weeks of nonconference play.
Jayla Gage, Jocelyn Garcia and Melissa Kuya-Strobel created multiple opportunities for Troy with a combined four shots on goal. The Trojans spread the wealth as nine players let out a shot. Lindsey LaRoche finished the night with two saves and her first shutout of the season.
The Lions were parched in scoring opportunities, having only two shots on goal on five total opportunities – Hannah Guthrie and Alana Watts let out the two shots on goal.
Nil-Nil Draw
After 45 minutes of play, both teams were held scoreless with only seven total shots let off and three on goal.
Troy continued to dominate the offensive end in the second half, spending 72 percent of the half attacking the North Alabama defense.
Five minutes into the second, Troy crashed the Lions' netminder, Payton Yates, with Jocelyn Garcia sending a free kick right to the top of the net. Just 1:33 later, Gage wanted a turn, taking an unsuccessful shot attempt.
At the 84:16-mark, North Alabama found some late momentum, creating a scoring opportunity after Watts split the defenders. Watts let out the shot only to be met by a diving save from LaRoche to complete the shutout, 0-0.
Hear from Coach Lane
"Today was a tough day that just lacked rhythm. It started with weather delays and just took us a bit to get going. Certainly, proud of the effort and fight showed by the girls. We weren't clinical enough in the final third to find a goal that would separate us on the scoreboard. That said, unbeaten weekend here in Mobile and something to build on as we look ahead to a quality Mercer side."
Nil Numbers
• Troy outshot North Alabama in both halves, 4-3 and 8-2 in 90 minutes of action, with nine different Trojans letting out at least one.
• The Trojans finish their regular season neutral site matches at 1-0-1, marking the first time they hadn't lost a neutral site match since 2014 – finished 4-0.
• Troy created numerous scoring chances off its corner kicks, with six different opportunities compared to the Lions' one.
