Troy Falls in Both Games of Doubleheader

Despite the loss in game one, which ended the Trojan's (29-16, 13-10) five-game win streak, Troy came out in game two and had a 4-1 lead, but seven unanswered runs by the Eagles (31-15. 17-6) was key in getting their second win of the day.
Game One: Caleb Bartolero was responsible for the lone Trojan run in game one after his fifth home run of the season in the top of the seventh.
Brady Fuller (4-2) only lasted two innings as Georgia Southern knocked in 13 runs and 11 hits off of him.
The Eagles got out to an early lead in the bottom of the first and never looked backed. The Eagles scored seven runs off nine hits in the inning. Georgia Southern sent 13 batters to plate, with the first five reaching with base hits.
Judson Hershiser relieved Fuller but was also greeted by the Georgia Southern bats for nine runs on eight hits.
Georgia Southern Starter Ty Fisher (3-2) went seven innings, striking out nine, only allowing six hits and a walk.
With the game out of hand, Cameron Gray was brought in from right field to pitch, making his first pitching appearance for Troy. Gray did his job getting the third and final out of the eighth on three pitches.
The 24 runs allowed by the Trojans is the most since March 2, 2019, when Southeastern Louisiana scored 19 runs.
Game Two: Trojans quickly erased any memory of game one by scoring in the top of the second as Gray was able to beat the tag at home after a slow roller by Donovan Whibbs back to the pitcher.
The Eagles evened things up in the fourth, capitalizing on back-to-back two-out hits before Rigsby Mosley got out of the inning.
The 1-1 game lasted four batters, with William Sullivan notching his 12th double of the season, driving in both Whibbs, who had singled to start the inning, and Jesse Hall, who was hit by a pitch. The third run of the inning and fourth run of the game for Troy came from Kyle Mock after his single.
Georgia Southern again responded in the bottom half of the fifth to get within 4-3, but Grayson Stewart relieved Mosley and got the third out on one pitch to maintain the one-run lead for Troy.
Stewart (4-3) came back in the sixth inning but allowed five runs giving the Eagles an 8-4 advantage. Unfortunately, that's where the scoring ended as Jay Thompson (5-2) finished the last four innings for Georgia Southern, only allowing three hits and striking out five to thwart any Troy comeback.
Up Next: The Trojans and Eagles will wrap up their three-game series tomorrow, Sunday, May 8, at noon.
