Troy Softball Heads to Louisiana for Key Conference Series

TROY, Ala. – The Troy Softball team will head to Louisiana in a pivotal three-game conference series starting Friday at Lamson Park.

The Trojans (22-10, 8-4 Sun Belt) and Ragin Cajuns (23-10, 9-3 Sun Belt) currently rank second and third in the league with just one loss separating the pair.

Last weekend, Troy won its fourth consecutive conference series, marking the first time since the 2008 season that the Trojans won their first four league series.

On the flip side, Louisiana has won 68 straight conference series, dating back to March 2013.

Last Friday, Leanna Johnson set the program's career shutouts record, surpassing Ashlyn Williams after picking up her 26th shutout.

The Trojans' pitching staff excelled over the weekend. Libby Baker and Johnson combined for a 1.67 ERA, 25 strikeouts and pinned opponents to a .129 batting average.

Kelly Horne leads the Trojans' offensive attack, batting at a .375 with six doubles, eight home runs and 18 RBIs. The junior was tallied 92 career walks, ranking fourth in Troy's career records. Her 32 walks this season also ranks tied for sixth in Troy's single-season records, a mark she also achieved last season.

Louisiana heads into the weekend series after falling in extra innings on Wednesday to McNeese State.

In the duel, Meghan Schorman (6), Kandra Lamb (7) and Sam Landry (5) combine for 18 strikeouts. Lamb leads the Cajuns' pitching staff with a 2.09 ERA with 85 strikeouts over 60.1 innings of work.

At the plate, Kayla Falterman paces Louisiana, batting at a .405 mark with four doubles, a triple and four RBIs. Stormy Kotzelnick brings in the run-scoring ability – leading the team with 26 RBIs.
