LAFAYETTE, La. – Troy dropped game one of a three-game conference series to Louisiana, 7-1, Friday night at Lamson Park.
After a quiet opening frame from both sides, Alexa Langeliers took a full hack at a ball that went just far enough out of catcher Candela Figueroa's reach for an infield single. Samantha Graeter followed with a two-run shot to give the Ragin Cajuns an early lead in the bottom of the second.
Logan Calhoun followed in the top of the third with an infield single of her own but was ultimately left stranded in scoring position.
Leanna Johnson (14-6) retired the side in the fourth to send the offense back to the plate. Kennedi Gaton led off the fifth frame with a single to the Louisiana shortstop.
After a wild pitch and a ground out put Gaton's pinch runner in scoring position, a deep fly out to center field ended the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, a one-out long ball from Stormy Kotzelnick gave the Ragin Cajuns a 3-0 advantage.
However, the Trojans never quit fighting. In the top of the sixth, Taylor McKinney ripped a two-out payoff pitch to deep right-center field with a runner aboard, plating the lone run of the contest for Troy.
Louisiana retaliated with four runs through a pair of pitching changes in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach for the Trojans.
Sam Landry (11-2) scattered three hits and a run to earn her 11th win of the season.
Johnson suffered the loss for the Trojans after allowing four runs and six hits through 5.0 innings of work.
