NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Troy men's golf team is on the brink of recent history as the Trojans lead the Bash at the Beach after Monday's two rounds at the Surf Golf & Beach Club. Troy's lead comes on the heels of back-to-back wins, and a third straight would mark the first time Troy has won three straight tournaments since 1995.
Troy leads host App State by five shots with 18 holes to play after the Trojans shot 15-under par on Monday. The 553 is the Trojans' best 36-hole score in school history, four shots better than a 557 carded at the 2016 Seminole Intercollegiate (par 72 course). The 15-under par ranks as the third-best 36-hole score relative to par in school history.
Will McFadden is the clubhouse leader for the Trojans as he sits in a tie for third place at 6-under par following rounds of 70 and 67 on Monday. McFadden carded seven birdies and an eagle on the day.
Nicklas Borrmann charged out of the gates for the Trojans with three straight birdies Monday morning as he shot 4-under in the first round before an even-par round two; he is tied for eighth. Brantley Scott and Reagan Harrell are tied for 11thplace at 3-under as each shot a round in the 60s, while Jake Springer is tied for 20th at 2-under par and Kyle Cornelius is tied for 55th place at 4-over.
Eight of Troy's 12 individual rounds were under-par on the day, and the Trojans lead the field with 20 birdies over the first 36 holes. The Trojans were strong across the board on Monday, but especially so on the par 4 holes (-5) and the par 5 holes (-7).
