Trojans Win Two on Sunday; Complete Sweep of Indiana

TROY, Ala. – Big days from Jesse Hall and Kyle Mock helped the Trojans take both games of the double-header and sweep the series from the Indiana Hoosiers Sunday afternoon at Riddle-Pace Field. Troy won the opener 6-4 and took the second game 7-4.
Both Hall and Mock finished the day with three RBIs each and doubles at critical moments in both games, leading the Trojans (11-5) to their fifth straight win.
The Trojan bullpen was called upon today as a total of six relief pitchers were used and combined for one run, only allowing two hits, one walk, and 11 strikeouts in nine innings of work to shut down the Hoosier (6-9) offense.
Game One – Troy 6, Indiana 4
A back-and-forth affair saw the Hoosiers strike early as they plated two runs in the first after a throwing error by Easton Kirk kept the inning alive. However, the Trojans weren't behind for long as they would eventually take the lead in the bottom of the third.
After a leadoff single by Colin Summerhill, William Sullivan was hit by a pitch for his team, leading fifth time this season to put runners on the basepaths. Both would come around to score after Hall doubled for the second straight game.
The Trojans would regain the lead shortly after as Clay Stearns hit a deep fly ball to right field to bring in Hall, who had stolen third base right before.
Indiana again responded with two runs to retake the lead after a Carter Mathison double, and Josh Pyne single brought in two more runs.
Troy wouldn't wait long to take the lead for good, as in the bottom of the fourth, Brandon Schrepf took advantage of a wild pitch and scored to tie the ball game once again. The winning run would come from Rigsby Mosley after a sharp single deep in the second base hole scored Donovan Whibbs.
An insurance run would come from Hall for his third RBI of the game after his second double of the afternoon. This was Hall's fourth three-RBI game this season already to lead all Trojans.
Bradley Brehmer picks up the loss (1-1) after going 3.2 innings pitched, allowing five runs on three hits and walking three.
Freshman Brady Fuller (2-1) would settle in and claim the win after going 5.0 innings pitched, allowing four runs on five hits, one walk while striking out three.
Kyle Gamble came in for the second consecutive game in relief and picked up his first save of the season, going two innings and striking out three.
Game Two – Troy 7, Indiana 4
A three-run first inning from the Hoosiers saw Troy again playing from behind, but the Trojans responded immediately, much like in the first game.
Three straight walks to load the bases had put the pressure on Hoosier starting pitcher John-Biagio Modugno. After two consecutive strikeouts, it looked like he would escape the inning.
However, center fielder Brandon Schrepf quickly changed the game as a seeing-eye single made it through the hole between third and short, bringing in two runs.
Kyle Mock would step up to bat in his first start of the season and perfectly place a single in shallow left field. Modugnoa's day was finished after that
Reese Sharp (0-3) would come on in relief and pitch 5.1 solid innings of work, slowing down the Trojan batters. At one point, he retired 12 straight Trojan batters, and Indiana would eventually tie it in the third after a Brock Tibbitts home run.
The 4-4 deadlock would be broken in the bottom of the sixth after another walk came around to score after Mock would slap a double down the left-field line scoring the run that would prove to be the winner and handing Troy the lead.
The Trojans picked up insurance runs in the seventh as Stearns notched his team-leading sixth double of the year and was followed by a Seth Johnson double to give him his fifth RBI of the season.
Ryan Pettys (1-0) picked up the win and was sensational in relief, going a season-high three innings pitched and was one away from matching his career-best in strikeouts after finishing with five.
Five days after his first career win, Rigsby Mosley entered the game as the closer to get the final out. After getting ahead of the hitter, Mosley produced a weak ground ball to second and earned the first save of his career.
Up Next: The Trojans look to continue their win streak as the home stand continues with a midweek matchup with the Samford Bulldogs on Tuesday, March 15, beginning at 6 pm.
