Coasting Through Coastal
Troy leads the series 9-5.
Troy looks to sweep the Chanticleers for the first time in Coach Cross' tenure at Troy after defeating them on Jan. 6, 69-59.
Shooting just 32.4 percent in the first half, Troy found itself down by five, 27-22, with 2:30 left in the first half.
Duke Miles took over, scoring four straight points after Odigie made an easy layup to finish the half down by just one, 29-28.
That run carried over into the second as the Trojans outscored the Chanticleers, 22-7 in the opening 10 minutes - 15 points came off either second-chance opportunity or turnovers.
Zay Williams and Jakevan Leftridge pushed the lead out to as much as 19 as both players had double-digit performances in the second half alone. Their output allowed the Trojan lead to never dip below double-digits.
Catching Up with the Chanticleers
Coastal lost four of their last five games after a tough loss last night to South Alabama, 71-68.
Vince Cole knocked one down from behind the arc with 7:54 remaining to give the Chanticleers their largest lead of the game, 54-46.
From there, things began to fall apart as the Jaguars launched back to claim the lead with 3:37 left, 65-63 after Charles Manning Jr. slammed one in.
Leading by three with under a minute to go, the Chanticleers allowed four unanswered, including a made 3-pointer at the buzzer for Kayo Goncalves to suffer the loss.
The Chanticleers have been prolific in scoring the ball this season, averaging a conference-best 73.3 points per game on 45.4 percent shooting from the field (6th in SBC) and 36.1 percent from deep (2nd in SBC).
Coastal has three players in the top 12 in scoring for the conference in Cole (15.4), Essam Mostafa (13.7) and Rudi Williams (13.6), with two of them in the top-10 for field goal percentage (Mostafa - 49.4 percent, Cole - 43.8 percent).
