TROY, Ala. – Winners in five of their last six matches, the Troy men's tennis team heads to Corpus Christi, Texas, for the HEB Invitational over the weekend. The Trojans open the eight-team compass draw tournament against DePaul at 12 p.m. on Friday.
Troy and DePaul are joined by UTSA and New Mexico State on the top half of the bracket with the two winners meeting at 5:30 p.m. Friday and the two losers squaring off at the same time. The bottom of the bracket is comprised of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, East Tennessee State, Louisiana and Abilene Christian.
The Trojans (6-3) saw their five-match winning streak snapped this past weekend with a 6-1 loss at UNC Wilmington in a match that featured four of the singles competitions stretching to three sets. Troy is 36-16 in singles on the year as a collective unit, and the Trojans have been strong at the top and the bottom of the lineup.
Carles Anton and Pelayo Antuna have combined to go 12-5 on courts one and two during dual matches, while Vito Llinares is 7-1 on court six. The Anton/Antuna doubles pairing has proven to be unbeatable this spring as the pair is 7-0, while Nicolas Simkin and Christopher Tasker are 7-2 on court two.
DePaul enters the weekend 4-3 on the spring with victories over UIC, North Dakota and Illinois State and 1-point losses to Wisconsin and Florida Atlantic.
