TROY, Ala. – In wild fashion, a lights out performance by Libby Baker and timely offense allows the Trojans to complete the comeback to down Texas State, 6-4, during Sunday's Senior Day at the Troy Softball Complex.
With the win, Troy (33-12, 16-5 Sun Belt) controls its own second-place destiny heading into the final series of the regular season next weekend.
Texas State (33-10, 14-6 Sun Belt) struck first in the top of the opening frame off four hits and an error. After the third run was plated off an infield single by Cat Crenek, Leanna Johnson entered in relief of Kysnley Rae Blasingame.
Johnson fanned the final two batters to limit the damage and work out of a bases loaded situation.
The Trojans quickly retaliated in the bottom of the first with three runs to even the contest.
Jade Sinness kick started the outing with a leadoff walk. Katie Lively followed with a single to put a pair of runners of for senior Katie Webb.
Texas State third baseman Baylee Lemons sailed an errant throw on a sacrifice bunt attempt that would score the first two runs of the game for Troy.
Kelly Horne then followed with a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt to move Webb to third. Webb came around to score on a wild pitch to tie the ball game.
After a quiet second inning, Texas State utilized a Troy throwing error to regain the lead in the top of the third.
However, Troy bounced back after being retired in order in the fourth to plate two runs and take the lead once and for all in the bottom of the fifth.
Sinness again sparked the offensive push reaching on a fielding error by the Bobcats' second baseman. In similar fashion as the first inning, Lively followed with a single to put a pair on for Webb.
Webb roped a single through the left side, scoring Sinness and tying the game.
After Horne got aboard with an infield single, Anslee Finch singled up the middle to plate the eventual game-winning runs.
After entering in relief in the fourth, Libby Baker (7-4) retired six of the next eight batters to secure the Senior Day victory for the Trojans.
Meagan King (9-3) suffered the loss for Texas State after entering in relief for Jessica Mullins. King allowed three runs and four hits through 3.0 innings of work.
