Men's Tennis Completes Comeback over UTA to advance in the Sun Belt Tournament

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The Troy men's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with an impressive 4-3, come from behind victory over UT Arlington in Friday's opening round match.
The Trojans (20-3) earned the gutsy win on Friday after falling behind UT Arlington (7-11) early after they won the doubles point convincingly. With all eyes on singles, and needing to win four of the six matches, Troy had its work cut out for them.
With its depth and strong lineup, Troy didn't trail for long. The Trojans picked up back-to-back victories to start singles play from freshman Carlos Anton (6-1, 6-4) and senior Amer Bedwan (6-3, 6-1) to jump in front with a 2-1 lead. After UTA took courts five and six with a pair of 3-set victories, everything came down to freshman Vito Llinares and junior Pelayo Antuna.
The match tying point came from Llinares who closed the door on his opponent with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 victory on court three. With the match tied at three it all came down to Troy's top player on court one. Antuna had to dig deep after he lost the first set 6-7 in a tiebreaker. Following the set one loss, Antuna stormed back to take the second set 7-5 before winning the third set with ease, 6-2.
Troy will be back on the courts tomorrow afternoon 1 p.m. (CT) in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament when they meet South Alabama for a trip to the championship match.
