MOBILE, Ala. โ Drew Frederic broke Troy's all-time runs record as the Trojans fell in game two of the series against South Alabama. Troy struggled once again to get the bats going as it fell 6-3 to the Jags Friday night at Stanky Field in Mobile.
ย
Frederic scored the 191st run of his career on a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning, breaking Troy's school record for runs scored. The blast was the 23rd longball of the senior's storied career.
ย
South Alabama (15-10, 4-1 SBC) struck first with a pair of runs in the opening frame and added four runs, all with two outs, across the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings to lead 6-1 entering the final inning.
ย
Troy (13-12, 2-3 SBC) pieced together two runs on three hits in the final frame highlighted by Frederic's second run of the night, scored on a wild pitch, and an RBI-single from Caleb Bartolero to score Logan Cerny. The Trojans' ninth-inning rally would fall short, however, as they ultimately fell, 6-3.
ย
DJ Wilkinson (0-2) was the pitcher of record for the Trojans after allowing three earned runs on five hits in 4.2 innings. Kyle Gamble tallied three strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work in his seventh appearance of the year.
ย
Matt Boswell (2-0) carried a no hitter into the fifth inning, but was immediately lifted after Frederic's homer. Boswell earned his second win of the season with an eight-strikeout performance.

Quotable โ Head Coach Mark Smartt
"South Alabama certainly outplayed us tonight. [Matt] Boswell was really good, he dominated early in the game and we couldn't do very much offensively throughout the game. Thank goodness for Drew Frederic, he broke up the shutout and no-hitter with one swing of the bat. We didn't pitch well enough, defend well enough and we certainly didn't swing the bats well enough. For us to win a game on the road, we're going to have to play a lot better. I expect our team to show up tomorrow and be a better baseball team and get back into a good place very soon."
ย
On Drew Frederic's School Record
"I'm so proud of Drew, he's on the cusp of many records and this is the first one to fall. It speaks to the level of player he's been throughout his career. He's been a staple in the top of the lineup for the last three-plus years. This is one of many that will probably fall in the next few weeks. I'm proud of all he's accomplished and I look forward to the several more records that will fall soon."
