Women's Tennis drops match to in-state foe

TROY, Ala. – Back at home for the first time since late February, the Troy women's tennis team played host to the Samford Bulldogs Friday afternoon, falling by a score of 2-5. The loss moves the Trojan record to 2-5 on the season while Samford improved to 6-5.
Troy got things going early in doubles with strong performances on all three courts. The Trojans earned back-to-back victories, the first coming on court two by the duo of Andrea Widing and Michele Ncube with a score of 6-3. The doubles point was clinched on court three by the pair of Matea Mihaljevic and Shevita Aulana who earned the win by a score of 6-4.
Troy's 1-0 lead in the match was turned into a 2-1 deficit after Samford opened singles play with two wins on courts six and one. Troy was unable to regain the lead after the Bulldogs clinched the match with two more wins on courts three and two. Troy did earn a final point with a win on five by Kristina Kukaras.
Troy will be back at home once again on Saturday when they play host to Florida A&M. The match between the Trojans and Rattlers is set to begin at 11 a.m. from the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
