Match 1
Troy vs Alabama State
Sunday, Feb. 7 | 11 a.m.
Montgomery, Ala. | Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center
TROY, Ala. – After a string of postponements due to weather, the Troy women's tennis team is finally set to make its 2021 debut. The Trojans will get things started with a road trip to Montgomery to take on the Hornets of Alabama State. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.
Sunday's match will be Troy's first dual match in 334 days after COVID-19 ended last season on March 8. The Trojans will be looking to build off of last season 5-4 record with strong returning talent as well as a lot of incoming talent.
Troy's roster is made up of one junior, Matea Mihaljevic, two sophomores (Anastasiia Khokhlova, Michelle Ncube) and five freshmen (Shevita Aulana, Anastasiia Khrustaleva, Kristina Kukaras, Tijana Svitlica and Andrea Widing). Due to COVID-19 ending last season early, everyone earned an extra year of eligibility.
Mihaljevic returns as one of Troy's top players. The junior from Croatia led the Trojans in singles wins last season with seven, while tying for the team lead in doubles wins with five. Khokhlova trailed Mihaljevic by only one win as she posted a 6-2 singles record last season.
Of the eight Trojans on this year's roster, six are returning from last season. New to the roster is Ncube and Kukaras. Ncube is a decorated transfer from ECU and Bethune-Cookman. In her freshman season at BCU, Ncube earned First Team All-MEAC honors and was named the MEAC Rookie of the Year. At ECU she earned AAC All-Academic Team honors. In her career she has 14 dual singles victories and 16 in doubles.
