Women's Tennis falls at Mercer

MACON, Ga. – The Troy women's tennis team was back on the courts after 11 days off due to weather changing up its schedule. The Trojans traveled to Mercer on Sunday but fell to the Bears by a score of 2-5.
Troy took the early lead in doubles play after Matea Mihaljevic and Shevita Aulana earned an easy 6-1 victory on court three. The lead however didn't last as Mercer was able to narrowly edge out the Trojans on courts one and two and take the doubles point.
Mercer added to its lead at the start of singles play with back-to-back wins on courts two and three. Trailing by three, Troy never gave up. The Trojans battled back and made it a match with back-to-back victories of their own. Troy's first point came on five when Andrea Widing earned a 6-3, 6-3 decision followed by a win on court six by Anastasiia Khrustaleva who by a score of 6-3, 6-0. Troy was unable to close the gap any further, falling 2-5.
Troy has a busy week ahead with three matches in five days. The Trojans will kickoff the week in Mobile when they open conference play vs South Alabama before traveling to North Alabama on Saturday and Chattanooga on Sunday.
