Troy Opens Play at Roberta Alison Fall Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Troy women's tennis took to Tuscaloosa to conclude their fall season. The Trojans competed in both singles and doubles action on day one of the Roberta Alison Fall Classic.
Round one of single play kicked off with Maria Guirguis defeating Mississippi State's Chiara Di Genova in three sets. Di Genova took set one 6-2, but Guirguis bested her 7-5 in set two. In the decisive third set Guirguis overpowered Di Genova 6-4.
Leena Metwally defeated Sara Radojevic of Georgia State. The conference foes split sets one and two. Metwally decisively secured the match victory in set three, 6-0.
Veena Nazar also secured a victory in her match against Tulane's Leigh Van Zyl. Nazar stood tall in her two-set victory, 6-2 and 6-0.
Alexia Zarate concluded first-round singles play for the Trojans with a victory over Alcorn State's Taylor Briffa. The victory came in two sets, 6-0 and 6-0.
Zarate carried her momentum into round two with a victory over Sveva Bernardi of Georgia State. This victory also came in two sets, 6-3 and 7-5.
Maria Guirguis secured a round two victory as well. She topped Tulane's Natalia Perez in two sets, 6-3 followed by 6-1.
Leena Metwally continued her winning ways as well in round two. Metwally bested East Tennessee State's Niyati Kukreti in two sets. She took set one 6-1 and set two 6-4.
Round two of singles play was concluded by Veena Nazar defeating Taylor Briffa of Alcorn State. Nazar took the victory in straight sets, 6-2 then 6-1.
In doubles play, Nazar teamed with Zarate to take on Oihane Villanueva Lopez and Zoe Crimmel of Alcorn State. Their victory came 6-0.
