Women's Basketball Clinches East Division with Win Over Georgia State

TROY, Ala. – For the second time this week, the Troy women's basketball team pulled away from Georgia State in the second-half to earn a convincing, 79-60 victory. The win was Troy's fifth straight in the month of February and their seventh straight inside Trojan Arena, setting a new single-season record of consecutive home wins.
Troy (16-5, 11-2 SBC) won its 11th game of the season by at least 19 points after defeating Georgia State (10-9, 6-6 SBC) by 19 points on Friday. The win clinched the East Divisions No. 1 Seed, giving the Trojans a first-round bye in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournament March 5-8 in Pensacola, Fla. It's the second-straight season that Troy has earned a No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.
Leading the way for Troy on Friday, as they have all season, was a group of seniors that didn't let a slow first half dictate the outcome of the game. The Trojans played their worst half of basketball all season, shooting just 18 percent from the field and scoring a season low 27-points, but they came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders. Troy matched their entire first half point total in just the third quarter, while shooting 50 percent from the field. The senior class was a big reason for the turnaround as Janiah Sandifer, Jasmine Robinson and Tyasia Moore combined to score 23 of the teams 27 third quarter points.
After shooting just 18 percent in the first half, the Trojans ended the game with a field goal percentage of 35 percent on 27-of-77 shooting while shooting 52 percent from behind-the-arc on 10-of-19 shooting. Their 53 percent three-point percentage was Troy's third best average of the season. Troy held Georgia State to a field goal percentage of just 30 percent and 13 percent from behind-the-arc, 3-of-22 shooting. The Panthers were led by Taylor Hosendove who had a game-high 17 points and 12 rebounds.
How It Happened
The third quarter tells the story of how Friday night's game unfolded. After going into the locker room with a four-point lead, despite scoring just 27 points in the first half, Troy came out in the third quarter looking like a team that was not going to lose.
Jasmine Robinson, on her quest for 1,000 career points, opened the third with back-to-back three pointers to shift all the momentum in Troy's favor. After Georgia State scored six quick points of their own to cut the Trojan lead to just six, Troy began to really make its move.
The Trojans got a triple from Sandifer, followed by five straight points from Tyasia Moore. The only thing that slowed Troy was two GSU free throws, but like clockwork, Moore and Sandifer each scored again, and the lead exploded to 16 before being expanded to 19 after Sandifer knocked down a triple at the end of the third.
Although Troy earned its largest lead of the game in the final quarter, 22-points, the fourth quarter was much more competitive with both teams scoring 25 points. The quarter was highlighted by Johnson, who scored seven points to reach double-digits for the game for the eighth consecutive game and 10th time in her last 12 games.
Who Stood Out
Troy's senior guards stepped up on Friday night, combining to score 42 of the teams 79 point. Jasmine Robinson led the way with a team-high 15 points while Janiah Sandifer had 14 and Tiyah Johnson 13. Robinson also tied a season-high with six assists. Johnson added eight rebounds to her totals while Sandifer had an assist and two steals.

We need to get the win first, but after that we want our seniors to play well and have a great game."
