Robinson Joins 1,000-point Club in Senior Day win over Georgia State

TROY, Ala. – It was a special day all the way around for the Troy women's basketball team on Saturday. Troy earned its Sun Belt best, 13th conference win of the season by defeating Georgia State 84-78, while senior guard Jasmine Robinson became the 25th member of the 1,000-point club.
It was of course Troy's incredible senior class that led the way for the Trojans senior day victory. Troy (17-5, 13-2 SBC) won its sixth straight game, including 13 of its last 14 games, behind an 84-point performance, 67 of which came from its senior class. Robinson led the way with a game-high, 18 points while Alexus Dye followed closely behind with 16. Rounding out the senior scoring on Saturday was Janiah Sandifer with 12, Tiyah Johnson with 11, Emely Rosario with four and Tyasia Moore with three.
It was a tale of two halves for both programs on Saturday. Troy opened the contest shooting 40 percent in the first half before Georgia State (10-10, 6-7 SBC) held Troy to just 33 percent in the second. It was almost the exact opposite scenario for the Panthers who opened the game shooting 33 percent in the first half and 42 percent in the second. The role reversal between halves saw Troy's 21-point halftime lead get cut to just four in the final moments of the fourth quarter. Georgia State was led by Hannah Sadler who scored a team-high 18-points and Taniyah Worth who scored 16. Both Panthers entered the weekend averaging less than eight points per game.
How It Happened
Troy got off to a blistering start and seemed poised for its third straight 19+ point victory over Georgia State. The Trojans outscored the Panthers 26-12 in the first quarter, highlighted by Jasmine Robinson who knocked down a triple at the 6:04 mark of the first to record her 1,000th and 1001st career points.
After continuing its strong play into the second frame and taking a 21-point lead into the break, Troy's largest lead of the game, Georgia State began to turn the tide with a dominating third quarter. The Panthers scored 16 of the first 18 points in the third and trimmed the Trojan lead all the way down to just seven. With the momentum clearly with Georgia State, Troy started to get a couple shots to fall to match GSU's scoring and slowly increasing their lead back to double-digits.
In the final frame, Troy enjoyed a 10-point lead before Georgia State scored six straight points, four from the foul line, in just over a minute to make the deficit just four. A few moments later Georgia State's Kam Dziak added two more free throws to trim Troy's shrinking lead to just two before Troy extended its lead back to eight with six straight points of its own, four from seniors Dye and Robinson. Georgia State would get no closer than four in the final seconds as the Trojans walked away with an 84-78 senior day win.
Who Stood Out
Troy's seniors have been special all season and Saturday night was no different. Troy's seven seniors scored 67 of the teams 84 points against the Panthers. They also grabbed 30 of the teams 50 rebounds, eight of the nine assists, six of the eight steals and all five blocked shots.

Opening Statement
"It's our last game here [in Trojan Arena] this season so we are a little sad about, that but it was a great night. We got off to a fast start, we shot a lot better than we did last night. In the second half we came out and it looked like we got a little relaxed. [Georgia State] was very hungry to get this win, they got a lot of momentum in the second half and I'm proud that in the end we pulled out the win."
On Jasmine's 1,000-point
"Seems like just yesterday she was just a baby coming here to Troy, but really she has started games ever since her freshman year and every year she has gotten better and better. She got off to a slow start this year with some injuries but now that she's in it, all the senior experience and moments that she has built up in her career is helping her be the best player she can be."
