Troy Opens 2021-22 Season at Home Against Carver

TROY, Ala. – The Troy Trojans men's basketball program opens the 2021-22 season this Tuesday, November 9, at 7:30, when they get set to host Carver College at Trojan Arena.
This will be the fourth straight year these two teams have matched up, with the Trojans having won the previous three meetings with an average win margin of 41 points.

Troy Basketball Storylines:
- With 11 wins last year, head coach Scott Cross increased his career win total to 245. Cross will be primed to notch 250 career wins this upcoming season.
- The Trojans see eight new faces join the squad this year, including five coming from the Junior College Circuit and transferring to Troy. (TK Smith, Christyon Eugene, Duke Deen, Rifen Miguel and Efe Odigie)
- Senior Nick Stampley was tabbed a member of the Preseason All-Sun Belt Third team before the season. Stampley led the Trojans averaging 12.6 points and 30.2 minutes last season. Inside conference action, Stampley ranked eighth in scoring, averaging 14.6 points, and 12th in rebounds, averaging 6.6 rebounds.
- Former Panola College standout and Trojan newcomer Duke Deen was named an NJCAA Third Team All-American. The 5-10 guard averaged a team-best 20 points per game while shooting 44.6 percent from the floor. The sharpshooter also shot 41.6 percent from behind the arc and 86 percent from the charity stripe. He recorded three games with at least 30 points, including a career-best 43-point effort against Kilgore College. In addition, Deen hit at least three triples in nine different contests.
- In last year's matchup with Carver, Nick Stampley's 17 rebounds were the most by a Trojan since Jordan Varnardo grabbed 15 rebounds at St. Louis in 2018
- The Trojans held the Cougars to 20 second-half points in last year's contest, and Troy outscored Carver 58-8 in the paint in their meeting last year.
- Playing in all 28 games last season, sophomore Desmond Williams returns after leading the team in three-pointers made with 37 shooting .327% from behind the arc.
- Senior Khalyl Waters also returns for the Trojans after appearing in 26 games last year, converting 77 free throws on 88 attempts for an 87% free throw percentage.
