Troy Signs Romain Valakou to 2026-27 Roster

TROY, Ala. - Troy men's basketball announced the addition of incoming freshman Romain Valakou on Wednesday.Â
Valakou comes to the United States following a season with BCM Gravelines Dunkerque U21 in France. He finished as the second-leading scorer in the Espoirs ELITE League, averaging 20.5 points per game this past season.Â
The 6'4" guard also pulled down 5.4 rebounds per game while adding 3.6 assists per contest.Â
"Romain is a very talented prospect that has always been able to score the basketball at a high level," head coach Adam Howard said. "He has positional size as a combo guard and his versatility as a scorer and a playmaker will allow him to have an immediate impact on our program. We're excited to welcome Romain to our Troy basketball program."Â
The Bordeaux, France native appeared in one game with Gravelines top team on April 5, scoring three points in four minutes of action.Â
Prior to playing at Gravelines, Valakou spent a season with Cholet U21, where he averaged 16.5 points.Â
He also played for the French U18 national team in 2024.Â
Valakou joins transfer Robert Davis Jr., incoming freshman Tucker Wadsworth, and returners Kerrington Kiel, Evan Griffin, Emmanuel Clarton, and Hikaru Awata on the 2026–27 roster.Â
